FROM OUR BOOK DON’T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER
No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but rather painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
Discipline is the ability to do things when you don’t feel like it and to not do things when you do feel like it.
When you don’t feel like doing the dishes, you do it anyway regardless of what you feel. And when you feel like eating that cookie, you don’t eat it because you’re on that diet and shouldn’t. That is discipline.
Living an undisciplined life based on feelings leads people to bad economies, bad health, bad relationships, and bad, unhappy, dissatisfying lives. When you realize this, you realize the importance of being disciplined and teaching your children to be disciplined as well. Discipline is being able to control your words, actions, and behavior towards other people, no matter what you feel emotionally.
Discipline will keep you away from behavior and attitudes that are damaging your life, health, and relationships, because when you discipline yourself, you do things that are good for you, like exercising, eating healthy, and keeping your house in order. Discipline is important; with it we can have stable lives, better economy, better relationships, and better health. It makes you finish things you’ve started and makes you accomplish things, which will eventually contribute to making your life better.
You have to be able to master disciplining your mind and emotions when it comes to the little things, before you can start mastering and conquering the bigger things.
Start working on your discipline and self-control before you try to master anything else. When you’re strong enough to do the dishes even when you don’t feel like it, and when you are able to resist the temptation of eating that chocolate even when you really feel like eating it. Then you may be ready for the bigger challenges.
The big secret in life is that there is no big secret. Whatever your goal, you can get there if you’re willing to work.
